On June 14, 2024, Son Ha Group and Selex Motors signed a strategic partnership agreement to implement swappable batteries for EVGo electric two-wheelers and develop a shared battery network for electric motorcycles.

Attending and witnessing the signing ceremony were representatives from the Government Office, leaders from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Transport, and representatives from the University of Transport Technology.
According to the cooperation agreement, Son Ha Group’s EVGo electric two-wheelers will use swappable lithium-ion battery packs produced by Selex Motors. Selex Motors will share its proprietary swappable battery technology with Son Ha. As a result, EVGo electric two-wheelers will be able to use Selex Motors’ network of battery swapping stations.

This collaboration demonstrates that different electric vehicle brands can entirely use a shared energy infrastructure similar to gasoline-powered vehicles. Selex Motors is the pioneer in establishing the first shared battery-swapping network in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Selex Motors’ batteries can be used with approximately 70% of the electric motorcycles currently on the market.
Selex’s swapping battery solution allows electric vehicle recharging to be as quick as refueling with gasoline, with a full charge taking only 1-2 minutes. Moreover, the monthly cost for the battery-swapping service is about 20-40% cheaper than gasoline. This partnership will also reduce the purchase price of EVGo vehicles for customers, as they will not need to buy batteries.
At the signing ceremony, Selex Motors CEO Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen stated, “The fueling infrastructure for electric vehicles must be like that for gasoline vehicles. It must be shared among various brands, not 100 different charging infrastructures for 100 electric vehicle brands.
The collaboration between Selex Motors and EVGo is significant as it dispels the notion that an electric vehicle brand can only use its own batteries, charging stations, or swapping stations. Different electric vehicle brands can completely share one energy infrastructure, just like gasoline vehicles. Therefore, from the outset, Selex Motors designed their battery packs to be compatible with most electric motorcycles on the market and is ready to share and collaborate with other partners to build an open battery-swapping network based on mutual benefit, aiming to promote the electrification of transportation in Vietnam.

Further elaborating on the collaboration with Selex Motors, a representative from Son Ha Group stated that the partnership with Selex Motors will accelerate the development of scientific and technological products in the field of green energy. Through this ecosystem, Son Ha aims to eliminate barriers associated with electric motorcycles such as limited range and long charging times.
In the initial phase, the two entities will collaborate to immediately introduce the EVGo electric motorcycle products utilizing battery-swapping applications and infrastructure in major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and tourist destinations. Subsequently, they plan to expand nationwide to various provinces and cities.
Previously, in February 2024, Selex Motors signed a strategic cooperation with Samsung SDI to manufacture and supply electric motorcycle batteries using Samsung SDI’s genuine cells for other partners in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. In 2023 and 2024, the electric vehicle company had the honor of hosting the US Treasury Secretary, the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and numerous international delegations for visits and discussions.
Selex Motors is a startup focused on promoting sustainable development through smart electric vehicles and renewable energy. Aspiring to become Vietnam’s Hyundai, Selex Motors has chosen the path of independent development of a smart electric motorcycle ecosystem from scratch. Currently, Selex Motors has mastered all critical electric vehicle technologies, including battery technology, with a total of 10 patents, and manufactures products in Vietnam with over 80% local content.
Son Ha Group is a leading diversified conglomerate in Vietnam, investing in various sectors including manufacturing and trading of household and industrial products, clean water supply and wastewater treatment, and clean energy development. The EVGo electric motorcycle is one of their strategic products, embodying their commitment to sustainable development goals.
